My friend and I are traveling somewhat cheaply from Munich to Amsterdam. Originally we were going to do it straight by night train and spend 5 nights in Munich and 4 in Amsterdam, but we're thinking it might be better to take a night off each place and stop two nights in between. So the options seem to be possibly a night in Rothenburg and then the next in Bacharach (a hostel each night). Does this seem like a good idea or should we spend two nights in one place? I'm also curious if the trains will cost us a lot more doing it this way than the straight shot since we don't have a eurorail pass or anything? Thanks for any ideas and your time.
