I will be traveling to Munich this Summer, and will have 4 days to get to Amsterdam once arriving in Munich. Can anyone tell me, if getting to Amsterdam by train, if there is a scenic route? I've heard going straight through Germany is quite boring. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Yes, the northern part of the country is rather flat and can be boring.
I'd suggest 1st taking a train to Frankfurt and then a 2nd train from Frankfurt to Amsterdam. If you have time to spend a couple of nights along the way, then Wurzburg is a good choice on the 1st leg and Cologne on the 2nd. Frankfurt is also a good stop. The rail route from Frankfurt goes alongside the Rhine River much of the way and is quite scenic...vinyards, castles, ships, etc.
I would also try for a boat ride along the Rhine- as much or as little as you prefer- but definitely past the Lorelei. Also consider a side trip down the Moselle.
