We are 4 arriving in Munich by train. Plan to spend the day. Please suggest 5-6 must see sights.
Thanks, Harold
Off Course this year I'll visit the BMW Museum in Olympic Platz. I prefered Neue Pinakoteke, but but OK. If you have good condition, and the weather (big problem in Munich) is good, take a bike and move you in the city, wonderful experience...
You've got several options, depending on what you're most interested in seeing. Here are some ideas. You could do all of this in one busy day: - Dachau - Marianplatz and Rathhaus (tower and glockenspiel) - Viktualienmarkt (maybe for a quick lunch) - Frauenkirche - Museum of your choice. If you like art, the Alte Pinakothek might be a good choice given your time constraints. - Dinner at a restaurant that catches your eye
- A beer at the Hofbrauhaus or a beer garden Have fun.
5-6 sites in one day? You don't say when you are going. If I were spending one day in nice weather, I'd start in Marienplatz (Rathaus and Frauenkirchen) then head to English gardens. Wander and eat a meal at a beer garden there. If the weather is bad, substitute Hofbrauhaus (or less touristy alternative) for beer garden (go at night since daytime won't be necessary), spend less time outdoors at Marienplatz and maybe add an art gallery (alte pinakothek is one of my favorites), museum or Nymphenburg palace.
For the most efficient use of the very short amount of time you have in Munich, try going on a bike tour or walking tour. You get to see an awful lot and learn a lot too. They are all pretty cheap and a lot of fun.
Harold, You're not going to have time to see much if you're just going to "spend the day". There's LOTS to see there - is there any possibility of adding some time? One possibility would be to take one of the local walking tours. Check Radius Tours for further information. This would allow you to learn something about the history and cover the significant historical sights in a time-efficient manner. After the tour, you could check out the Hofbrauhaus, Viktualien Market, English Gardens or any other locations that might interest you. Happy travels!
