Munich, Salzburg & Zurich in 7 days

Hi,
We are arriving at Munich airport on Feb28 at 5:30PM and flying out on Mar7 at 7:30PM. Plan to rent a car at MUC.

Spend Mar1/2 in/around Munich, drive to Salzburg on Mar3 and stay the night, drive to Zurich (via Innsbruck) on Mar4 and spend Mar4/5/6 nights in/around Zurich(visit Zurich,Luzern,Interlaken/Gimmelwald).
Drive back to Munich on Mar7.

Is this schedule too aggressive? Any suggestions on must see things. How are driving conditions in early March?

Thanks,
Nicku

"Is this schedule too aggressive?" Yes, but only on one stretch. The drive from Salzburg to Zurich is very long, especially if you pass by Innsbruck. And having a rental car in Zurich is not the best idea, a flat-out awful idea in Munich.

"How are driving conditions in early March?" This is usually near the end of the ski season... I hope you weren't planning to do any hiking around the Interlaken area. But back to the question, barring a snowstorm (which nobody can predict this far out), the roads should be clear. Even if it does snow, the Swiss are very efficient at clearing the roads.

We will use car primarily for getting to the hotel, travel between cities and having some flexibility while exploring the countryside. Munich is not our final destination, we plan to leave 3 large suitcases at the Munich hotel (confirmed free of charge) for 4-5days and pick up on the way back. Plan to take public transportation to explore Munich/Salzburg/Zurich (making sure hotels are within easy reach of bus/train).

Nicku, If you want to enjoy a real splurge- Try the Goldener Hirsch Hotel in Salzburg. It is in the heart of Old Town (a 10 min. walk from the rail station). It has been a hotel for more than 400 years. The rooms are very large, and well furnished in an Old Austria style. We stayed here to celebrate our 30th anniversay and my 50th birthday. It was wonderful1!!!!!

Hi Nicku, i think it is too much, i would either do Munich/Salburg(Innsbruck), or Munich/Zurich(Luzern). there is too much to see to spend only 1 or 2 days in each city. I would do 3 full days in Munich, with a side trip to Ludwig's castle or Dachau and 3 days in Salzburg or 3 days in Zurich/Lucern. I would take the train instead of renting a car, the train is very efficient, cheaper, and probably faster. Have a good trip!
