Munich safe for a woman alone?

My husband is going to be flying out of Zurich as he doesn't want to come to Munich/Salzburg. I will be taking a train from Munich and spending 4 days and 4 nights in Munich with a one night trip to Salzburg by myself. I am totally fine iwth being alone and travelling by myself,I am 29 years old. Just want to make sure Munich is safe and fine for a me.

I would say for sure, depending only on where you are staying. The more popular/populated an area is, the less you probably need to worry.

Munich was a very safe city, especially in the main downtown areas which are full of people walking around.

As Steven said, Munich is a safe city. The only area you might want to avoid is just west of the train station. I wouldn't say it's unsafe, but it is where all the sex shows are, and the crowd that comes to those places, while maybe safe, certainly appear unsavory.

I agree with Dwayne. Of all the places I have stayed in my 3 trips to Europe in the last 3 years, the only one I was disappointed in was in Munich. It was a couple of blocks west of the train station. The further north (I think it was north - it was going away from the Marianplatz) we went of there (looking for a laundry) the seedier it became. I didn't read anything negative about this place, but it was dirty and there were sex shows down the street. I would recommend you don't stay in that area.

I will be stayin in the main city center and won't like in areas as recommended. My main concern is that travelling between Swtiz. and Munich by train is safe and spend a day in Salzubrg is safe. :)

I did a day trip to Salzburg from Munich and it seemed very safe to me.

I was in Munich for a couple days by myself about a week ago, and my hotel was in the seedy area. During the day it was just fine. (I didn't go out after dark, mostly because I'm "early to bed, early to rise" while travelling.)

The German trains are completely safe, and the cities are too. Especially if you compare them with Chicago. The crime rate is considerably lower. Even stuff like pick-pocketing is extremely low. Please feel safe any place you go over here.

Between the Bahnhof and Marienplatz is safe. You will be able to tell quickly if you are in a safe location. If you are I would highly recommend a walk through Marienplatz just after dark when the lights are on. It was beautiful and I enjoyed it as much at night as I did during the day time. There are lots of people and if you like classical music there is a string group and a pianist with a full size grand that play there almost nightly during the summer. Same in Salzburg. It is very safe and night time is awesome. Just remember-wear a money belt and the only thing that should be in a purse is a brush and makeup

I bet you could compare personal crime rates in your hometown of Chicago to Munich online, if you really wanted the comparison. I've traveled solo around Europe and never felt unsafe in any city (actually, I've never felt unsafe in an American city either. Random, personal violent crime is really quite rare).
