Let me try this again, we are going to Munich the 26th of December and will be there for New Years. We are Dad and two teenage boys. Any suggestions or recommendations?
I don't know if this will affect you much, but Dec 26 is a holiday (2nd day of Christmas) in Germany. That was only the second time in 15 years that I have been on a train where every seat was occuppied. If you plan on doing any travel, other than the S-Bahn from the airport into town, you might want reservations.
Also, in some areas (I don't know if Munich is one) hotels book up early and sometimes require a week's stay.
HOTEL ASTOR! It is a phenonmenal value. A double room was only 100 euro in peak season and it was a huge room - not just by European standards, it was truly huge. The bed was super comfy -- it had these amazing pillows and blankets. The free breakfast is delicious -- tons to choose from. It is about a 15 minute walking distance to the center of town - but right down the street from a subway stop -- Sarfi at the front desk can help you get a transportation pass and will show you the ropes with figuring out the map - he is a super nice guy. We never bothered with the subway, but we were only there two nights -- for a longer trip it would be worth it.
