What's the usual time of the year for Munich's outside beer gardens to open? May or earlier? I know it differs from year to year but I'm talking averages here. Thanks again.

I've been there in mid-April and the Biergarten in the Englischergarten was open.

We were at our local town biergarten on Saturday and asked this very question! He said their official opening is May 1, but they are open for lunch outside as soon as the weather is nice....it's been pretty nice this week, so perhaps soon. He also said they would open for lunch but not dinner until then, as it's just too cool in the evenings yet.

All the restaurants, cafes and applewine pubs have their outdoor seating ready to go here in Frankfurt, and for the past week, all the tables have been full. It was in the upper 60's today, with full sun. All the daffodils have popped open already, the forsythia and crocuses are out, and blooms are starting to appear on the trees. Nicest March I have ever seen in Germany.

Jerry, I love your inquiry!!! We will be in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and then in Munich from May 12-May 16 and we are looking forward to spending time at the Hofbrauhaus and other beer gardens. Although I prefer wine, my husband thinks I will like German beer. Actually, I just want to be part of the festivities!!! (Just wish we were a little younger)!!!! Gute Reise!!
