Munich itinerary help

I have a day in Munich in May. How could I best utilize it in terms of places to see and things to do.
Thanks

Since you only have a day, the Deutsches Museum takes to long and Dachau is too far out. Spend your time closer to downtown. If you like art museums, there are the three Pinokotheke. Other than that, stay around Marienplatz. There is the Frauenkirche, the Glockenspiel at 11:00, eat lunch in the Ratskeller or at Hofbräuhause, see the open air market (Viktualienmarkt), the Residenz was the in-town palace of the Wittelsbachers, very ornate, just a few blocks behind the Rathaus.

Do you like beer, wine, or German food in general? Hate it LOL?!? Are you into art? Gardens? History? Fancy, frilly churches? Hate Baroque anything? Like quaintness, or definitely not? I could come up with 10 different days in Munich...depending on your likes and dislikes...no point in listing them all.

Hi Eileen,
Yes I love beer, ornate churches, gardens and history. Any itinerary you could suggest with these in mind?

To make the most efficient use of your time, since you only have one day in Munich, consider doing one of the walking tours on offer there. This not only will take you to the main sites, but will tell you lots of history too. This way, you won't have to wander around, guidebook in hand, trying to read about the things you are looking at. Hearing the information from a guide you can ask questions from, on a walking tour, is one of the best ways to see a city. Personally, I would recommend Dark History Tours. http://www.dark-history.eu/index.htm

For the perfect one day experience in Munich, I suggest starting with the Frommer's walking tour #1. It will take you past the best churches, the Marienplatz, the Residenz and the Hofgarten. The end of that walking tour puts you about two subway stops north of the main train station. Go to the trainstation and get on the tram #17, which is located just outside in front of the station. Take the tram #17 to the Hirschgarten, which is the biggest beer garten in the world. Enjoy some beers and food, then get back on the tram and head back to the train station, stopping of course at the Augustiner Keller, another beer garten. This one holds 5000 people and serves the best IMHO beer in the world. If you keep a good pace, you would still have time for a late afternoon stroll through the Englischer Garten, with snacks and beers and one or more of the four beer gartens located inside.
