Munich in March

We're contemplating our March 14-21st 'spring break' trip to either Munich or London. "We" are my husband and I and our 19 yr old son and 20 yr old daughter. We've previously traveled to Rome, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Brugge and are comfortable traveling by train, bus, etc. I'm specifically wondering what sites are accessible? Could we ski in Germany (would need beginner lessons)? Is weather a huge concern? Any and all suggestions welcome!!!

Hi Mary,
We were in Munich this summer with our three young kids for 3 days, as part of a longer trip. While we thought it was a pleasant city, we really didn't find that it offered much in terms of sights or tourist activities. Unless your family is particularly interested in WWII, I would recommend London, where there is much more to see and do.

Hey Mary! Munich has a lot to offer for your vacation. The average temperature in Munich in March is around 0 degrees Celsius or about 32 degrees Fahrenheit. A little chilly for me but probably great for skiing. There are lots of skiing areas in the Bavarian Alps not far from Munich and you can reach them on a day trip via train, bus or car. Some locations to consider for skiing are Firstalm, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Berchtesgaden. In March many of the attractions in Munich may be operating during reduced hours as opposed to in the Summer. However, there is still a lot to see and do. The Residenz, Deutsches Museum, Alte Pinakothek and Nymphenburg Palace are all open in March. Also King Ludwig II's castle Neuschwanstein is open in March.

Thank you both! Your perspectives are most welcome. I've been tracking airfare and hope the economy will give us a break in cost over the next month or so.

I recommend going to Munich. London, and every part of England, is likely to have gray clouds and cold rain in the month March. When I was in England, the month was June, I experienced good luck of having beautiful bright blue sky and sunlight every day, except for the last day - the day I flew from an airport of London to the U.S.A. That day, London's sky was totally filled with dark gray clouds and fog. Dim light in the sky. Cold wet air. Very gloomy. Causing me to feel miserable in London that morning. I was glad that I was departing from England that day. The climate in London is more unpleasant in the month March. If you want to go to a place that has sunlight in March, try Slovenia. Ride in a train from Munich to Lubljana. Slovenia is located at the "sunny side of the Alps".
