Munich Hotels Prices Through the Roof

We are planning a stay in Munich Sept 13-16, Even though this is before Oktoberfest there is something else going on (Drinkfest??) that has affected room prices. I'm looking at hotel doubles with bath that were in the 70-85 euro range going from 150 euro and up. Some even as high as 250 euro. Is there an outlying area or suburb with U-Bahn or S-Bahn access to the old city where room prices may still be reasonable?

Thanks

Try the Hotel Ludwig. Toursit class hotel opposite the train station. Good location, pvt bath, friendly staff.

This is the kind of question that may get more answers from the destination experts at the Munich forum of Trip Advisors, some of whom are probably local residents and hopefully will have the detailed knowledge to answer your question.

A couple of years ago I had the same question. I guess there are several very large conventions flanking Oktoberfest and that raised the prices early and kept them high before and after Oktoberfest.

But I'm sure a local will chime in with better info.

Did you check the Ibis Hotel? Or Etap? They are both with Accor group.

Check out www.gauting.de for accommodations. This is an area outside of Munich but accessible by the bahn. Good luck!

Thanks for all of the ideas. We have solved the problem by rearranging our schedule to arrive in Munich a couple of days earlier than we had originally planned. Now the rates are good to go.
