2 people over 65 plan to visit munich 9/29-10/4, 5 nights... steves' 2-3 star recommendations would be fine but i do not know what hotels might be good and reasonable as well... ie NOT $300/night... double, shower, toilet and breakfast. hoping someone could suggest several to inquire about? also welcome to write to me directly at [email protected] i live in the san francisco bay area... thanks walt
walt, I'm not familiar with "Hotel Brack" mentioned in your other Thread, so can't offer any comments. For Hotels in Munich, you might have a look at: > Hotel Royal - VERY close to the main rail station. Comfortable rooms and a great breakast. The area outside the hotel is a bit run down, but inside the hotel it's a completely different situation. > Hotel Uhland - wonderful hotel close to Theresewiese (Oktoberfest) in a quiet residential area. About a 15 minute walk from the main rail station. Also has comfortable rooms and a great breakfast. Both hotels are in the Guidebook. I'm sure the others will be along shortly with more suggestions. Happy travels!
thanks... uhland fully booked.. will try royal.. appreciate your help... walt
Your dates are during Oktoberfest, when lodging is really tight, and hotels raise their prices. It is going to be difficult to find anything in th elower price ranges. You can try a booking site like booking.com to check for what is still available, but you may be shocked by the prices.
Walt,
I doubt you will find anything in Munich that is close to public transportation, reasonably priced, and livable this late. I have stayed in various places outside of Munich and used the train to get to and from the Oktoberfest. The Oktoberfest area is only 5-6 blocks from the main Munich train station so transportation in Munich is not a problem if you use the train to commute. Some of the cities to consider are Garmisch, Salzburg, Augsburg, Ulm, Fussen, Regensburg, and Ingolstadt. Good luck...
thanks to all for your kindness... still no luck and waiting for word back from hotel royal and one other...will also consider outlying cities altho will check on duration of train ride into munich... walt
Walt-
I found several hotels in Munich for about $200 per night during this time. Looking at Augsburg there are direct trains both directions every hour that cost 25 Euros total for 2 people round trip. There is an Ibis hotel that costs about 100 Euros per night for 2 people that is a block or so from the train station. I'm sure you can find other options in this price range in other cities close to Munich if you look hard enough. Good luck ...
Booking.com came up with 171 Munich hotels with rooms available for your dates. Some are very expensive, but not all. Nyou can sort them by price, low to high, and pick one by location and rating.
Walt has moved on to a fresh post. But booking.com and the other booking websites often list a large number as available, until you click on those sites and get a note saying they booked their last room 10 minutes ago; of course they then suggest that you enter different dates, for which they will gladly rent you a room.
Walt, Try the Scherehof in Poing. It is close to the Poing U stop. It is a bit out of town, but very reasonable, under $100 per night w/ breakfast. Not sure of the spelling. J&D
