we were in Munich for one week and did not want to sped a lot of money on food, so we ate our "Abend Essen" in the evening at the Food Court in the HBF. For the most part the food was terriffic. and Cheap. there is a great variety from around the world and so you are never 'bored'. The Asian restaurant (cant remembr name) was particularly good.
I'm not sure I would rave about the food, but I have eaten there a few times while changing trains, and I would describe the food as "not bad". -And- it's fast. If you have an hour to change trains in Munich, you can certainly get a decent meal.
Oh, and for those who don't know where we are talking about, it's in the Haupthalle of the Hauptbahnhof, right off the end of the tracks.
Rob, that sounds absolutely horrible and absolutely why NO one in the USA would ever want to settle for a mass tranportation structure of rail systems like the Europeans have! I want to keep my car and be stuck in traffic jams and I only want to be able to move great distances with planes stuck on the tarmac - they are SO much quicker and friendlier than bad old train stations with attached gourmet markets and food courts.
Pun most definitely intended here!
The grocery store there was a great find as well! Who knew you could get a liter of milk, cold cuts, and a bottle of beer to go, right in the train station! OH and fresh bread!
WHEW...Tim, for a minute you had me going there. Reason being: I KNOW THESE PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT WAY (hate to admit it, but there it is). Can you even imagine?! Those 'train stations' are a wealth of adventure, culture, tradition. Thanks for adding to the fun.
Hey, Rick Steves......what are YOUR thoughts? I think this is worth your investigation also.
Funny thing is, I DID have a car, but went to the train station when everything else was closed and got snacks to take back to the room!
