Munich Germany a few morning hours what to do?

Hello. My friend and I have a layover at the Munich Germay ( MUC) airport from 8:30AM till our departure flight at 3:30PM. We would like to visit Munich. Would we have enough time? Any suggestions for activities prior to long flight?

head to the rathouse (city hall). there is a tower you can climb to get a good view of the city. the square in front has all the action. if you hit the right day, they have a farmer's market just 2 blocks away. the famours beer hall is not very far to walk from there, or just walk to the english garden to chill.

Thank you for your advice and quick response. Would the Bierhall be open, before 11AM? We might be thirsty after the tower climb.

The S-Bahn between the airport and Marienplatz (Rathaus) will take about 40 min each way. Assuming you want to get back to the airport two hours before departing flight, that still gives you about 3½ hrs in Munich. Pay attention to the schedule. The Hofbräuhaus opens at 9 AM. You'll have time to do everything in Marienplatz in 3½ hrs, watch the Glockenspiel at 11, visit the Vikualienmarkt, see the Frauenkirche, climb a tower (either the Rathaus or St. Peterskirche, from which you can see both Marienplatz and the Rathaus), lunch at Hofbräuhaus, etc. A tour of the Residenz is a little too long for the time you have.

The Viktualienmarkt Biergarten opens at 9am and is about a block from the Marienplatz. The train takes about 45 min from the airport to downtown. Just get off at the Marienplatz stop and enjoy downtown! Also, there is a beer garden smack in the middle of the airport. Its called Airbrau and has indoor as well as outdoor seating. It has decent food and a pretty good beer that they make right there. We always stop there for breakfast and a beer when we fly in. As a matter of fact, we will be there this Friday morning!

You have enough time to see something. Factor in time to get off the plane and to take the train downtown and back and get back through security/boarding for your flight. The train will probably take about 45 minutes each way. I agree with the suggestions to visit the Marienplatz. The city hall tower will give you a nice view of the city. You may also be able to catch the Glockenspiel. You can grab lunch at the adjacent Viktualienmarkt (as long as its not Sunday) or in one of the restaurants nearby. The Frauenkirche is downtown, is worth checking out, and does not take much time to see. Don't feel like you have to hike over to the Hofbräuhaus given your short schedule. You can get a good Bavarian beer at any number of locations around the city. Good luck.
