Any suggestions on the area in Munich we should stay in? We will not have a rental car so we are looking for a central area, easily accessible by walking, trains or buses to see the city. Thanks
google the easy palace station hotel across the road from train. not expensive at all.
There are many hotels around the Main Train Station. But the nicest and also convenient place would be the Marienplatz. Try Hotel Platzl or Hotel Torbrau...two of the best around that area. There are many others. Munich is easily accessible without car.
Someone I know stayed recently at Hotel Royal (www.hotel-royal.de) and was satisfied with it. It is between the Hbf and Karlstor (Stachus), easily accessible to the train station and the city.
King's Hotel esp if it is friday, sat or sunday nites, it is half price. I just got back from staying there over 2 weekends. it is highly recommended by rick steves. Stay in the Kings Hotel center which is one block away and cheaper. the internet cafe, a good chinese restaurant and kebab donner, supermarkets, italian are doors away. the city center is blocks away and the main train station is 2 blocks away. oh by the way, macdonalds is within sight. lol
google kings hotel munich germany and u can even book on line.
my best time in munich is to visit the andechs monastery on a sunday mass and they have a huge hall serving giant beers and roast pork (haxen) just like octoberfest. it was incredible. it is about 42 KM south of munich.
enjoy
