I am a single 54-year old female planning a trip to Germany and Austria this September. The specific date is open right now and am wondering if finding accommodations will be a problem if I chose to visit Munich during Octoberfest?
That would be kind of difficult for anyone to guess. The best way would be to send emails to places and ask about availability for a certain date.
Here is a list I have compiled from past recommendations.
Blauer Bock
Viktualienmarkt
Royal
Uhland
Seibel
Münchner Kindl
I'm sure others here will have other suggestions. I can't vouch for any of these places, since I always stay in a non-English speaking hotel in the suburbs.
In 2007, on the last Saturday night of Oktoberfest, I stayed here, in Landsberg am Lech. I booked well in advance, but I don't think they were completely booked that night, and their rates hadn't been raised. Landsberg is about an hour from Munich Hbf by train via Kaufering.
hotel can be hard to find on the weekend, but weekday is ok. you don't have to stay in the town center to enjoy it - the train system is very good and it's safe even late in the night so don't worry if you need to take a late train out of town.
FYI The Muchener Kindl has been booked since Feb when I started looking for rooms.
It will either be very hard to find a room or it will be very expensive.
Good luck.
Hard to find rooms and the costs will be very high. Consider staying in Salzburg or Innsbruck and day-tripping to Munich. They are only about an hour by train.
