A few years ago I found my way into a bar in Munich after the Hofbrauhaus closed for the night. It had a tree growing in the middle of it, if my hazy memory can be trusted. Was I seeing things? If not, where is that place? Prosit!
I've never seen it, but could it have been in the Viktualienmarkt. That's the only place I know of around there with trees. Might it have been a temporary building built around a tree on the market grounds?
Could very well have been that kind of deal. I distinctly recall walking back through the Victualienmarkt to get back to the hotel. Must have been a substantial temporary building because it sure seemed very "inside".
Thank you so much!
I was at a bar with a tree in it. It was 24 hours bar. I was really pissed though but you got me exited. I went to Munich in 2008 to see Bayern Munich vs Aberdeen. I stayed in that tree bar all night. Was great.
You might be thinking of the Hofgarten at Zum Franziskaner by the Residenz. They have a large covered courtyard inside. The picture on the website is at night, during the day it's lit just by daylight: http://www.zum-franziskaner.de/raeumlichkeiten
This thread is 4 years old. The post has come out of the blue.
If anyone is interested in a bar with palm trees and flowers in abundance indoors, try the lobby bar of the Kempinski Airport Hotel, adjacent to the Franz Josef Strauss airport, easliy reachable by subway.
Funny, I spent an evening in Strasbourg last month searing for a bar with a tree in it that someone in our group had heard about. We never found it. Now I have to wonder if there's mythical tree-bars in every European city.
Dauth Schneider in Frankfurt has a huge tree growing in the middle of one of their back rooms, where they sometimes open up the roof in the summer. Not really a bar, though a ton of applewine drinking goes on there. Here you can see it, in the photo labeled Smoking Lounge, where the roof is open, but in the winter, it is of course all closed up and it is neat to see a tree growing there:

That bar is near the Hofbrauhaus, on the same street as the Mandarin Hotel at a Y intersection. I recall they had Bitburger on draught. And it was not a tourist bar. I can't recall the name.
