If you do a walking tour (and there are several around that only cost 12 euro p.p or less if you are a student) that will cover a good portion of Berlin. This is truly the best way to see the city and learn a bit about its' history. The guides can also give you great tips about where to go and what to see. Especially for those fun evenings.

Many people are not thrilled with Checkpoint Charlie, neither the Checkpoint itself (I wasn't) nor the museum. Dusty and disorganized are the terms I hear most often.

The Pergamon Museum would be on my list of museums to visit.

If you have time, which you don't really, a visit to Potsdam would have been in order. The palace there is magnificent and the town is interesting too. Sachsenhausen and Ravensbruck Concentration Camps are also near-by and very worthy of a day trip.

Places to stay, where to eat, and the sights to see are covered in any guidebook. You'll find dozens of pages devoted to these subjects as opposed to the hit and miss suggestions you'll get on a forum where you might get 10 paragraphs of replies. Up to you how much planning you want to to in order best spend your vacation...

If you're looking for nightlife, don't look in the Rick Steves books. If you can get the Let's Go books in Spain, they'll have more info on that.

Dresden is farther away from Berlin than Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. I think I would save Dresden for another trip, as it does use up your vacation time and you don't have a lot of it. They are both such completely different places, it is impossible for anyone to tell you which one YOU should go see, it depends on your interests.

If I had to choose though, I would pick Sachsenhausen, simply because it is so moving. If you want to see the women's camp, Ravensbruck is very close by.

Interesting news flash about Checkpoint Charlie.
