Munich airport to Munich railstation

How do you get from the Munich Airport to the Munich railstation?

There are a number of high priced American style hotels in Munich around the north cemetery, Nordfriedhof, near Schwabing. If you are staying in one of them, the trip in on the Lufthansa bus is your fastest (~25 min) route.

However, for anyplace else, I would take the S-Bahn in on a €18,80 Partner-Tageskarte (Gesamtnetz). The bus is transportation only to the area near your hotel (if it is at Nordfreidhof or next to the Hbf). The Tageskarte will take you to your hotel no matter where it is in Munich, as well as cover any of your additional transportation the rest of the day. An Innenraum Partner-Tageskarte covers unlimit travel in the inner zone for €9,40 for up to 5 people, or two round trips for two anywhere in the inner zone would cost €9,60 with individual tickets.

The Munich Flughafen S-Bahn station is under the Munich Airport Center between the two terminals. Look for the green circle with a white 'S' symbol.

There are two tracks, for S1 and S8. They go different directions into town, but take about the same time. Whichever one leaves next will get you into the Hbf soonest.

On the platform in the station will be a ticket automat. On the RH side are two columns of buttons. The fourth yellow button down on the RH column is labeled "Partner-Tageskarte, Gesamtnetz". Push the button and the display will show "€18,80". Put in a €20 note and it will give you change. That ticket is valid for travel by 2-5 people on the S-Bahn to the Hbf and for any other conveyances (S-/U-Bahn, streetcars, and buses) anywhere in Munich the rest of the day.

You say you are going to the Hbf. Does that mean you are immediately leaving Munich on a train? If so, and if it is an express train (ICE, IC, EC) then the Gesamtnetz Partner-Tageskarte is the ticket you want. If you are leaving Munich on a regional train (RE or RB), and staying within Bavaria, a €28 "Bayern-Ticket" will cover your travel in from the airport and on any regional train in Bavaria for the day.

You can also get complete information on the Bayern-Ticket from www.bahnland-bayern.de, but it is only in German. There is also some information in English under "Länder-Tickets" on the DB website (www.bahn.de), but it is not complete.

Wait until I'm done.

I'm also going to add it to my website (someday). I wish I had taken pictures of the S-Bahn station at the airport last trip. Guess this means I'll have to go again.

I'm done.

There's also a Lufthansa airport bus that goes round-trip from Hauptbahnhof to airport every 20 minutes, costs 10.50 Euro one-way (round trip 17.00 Euro); stops in front of the terminals; takes about 40 minutes and you don't have to fly Lufthansa to use it. The first bus comes around at 6:20 am (first stop Terminal 2)and the last one at 9:40 pm (21:40).

Thank you very much for the information. Yes, please post the link.

We are going directly from Munich to Salzburg. Can we purchase a Bayern ticket and use it to go from Munich to Salzburg?

As I explained above, you can purchase a €28 Bayern-Ticket at the airport S-Bahn station and it will cover your travel from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof as well as travel on any regional train (RE or RB) to Salzburg.
