Can anyone recommend a good (and reasonably) hotel near the Munich airport? I have an early-morning flight from Munich and want to stay near the airport the night before. Preferably a hotel with a shuttle service. Thanks very much for any help.
If you stay in Freising near the Bahnhof, you don't need a shuttle. There is a direct bus from the Bahnhof to the airport. A bus leaves every 20 minutes, it takes about 20 minutes, and the fare is 2,50€ (2,60€ after 8 Dec 2012). Look for accommodations on the Freising website, www.freising.de. I like to stay in a room in Gästehaus Knoth, but I'm not sure you can do that without speaking German; try Zur Gred. Zur Gred has a website, in German, where you can book online, or you can find them on some booking websites (try hotel-ami.de).
You can also look at hotels in Erding. We are staying there on our arrival in Germany as it is a short bus ride to the airport. There might even be a shuttle from our hotel but I'm not sure.
We stayed at a Movenpic hotel near the Munich airport. Not sure of the spelling, but very nice and they did have a shuttle to and from the airport.
I have stayed several times in Erding at the Best Western Park Hotel. It is directly across the street from the Bahnhof so it is easy to reach it from Munich (about 45 minutes by S-bahn. It is a very short walk (about 5 minutes) into the cental part of Erding where there is an excellent choice of restaurants. I am not sure if they have an airport shuttle as I always take a taxi. Get on their website and ask them.
We have stayed in Freising a few times for flights out of the Munich Airport, taking the train station pubic bus that Lee mentioned or a taxi (~30€) to the airport. We have stayed at the Hotel zur Gred and liked it. We have also stayed at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in the center of town and are doing so again this December. Good location, decent spread for breakfast, and small but serviceable rooms. We got a good bargain at HRS.com. Into the bargain, we like Freising. Visit the chapel at Domberg where the current pope was ordained. Try some Weihenstephan Beer from the oldest active brewery in the world. The Weißbräu Huber Gasthof is great for plain food and a German atmosphere on your last day.
