Munich's Beer Gardens

Odd question but does anyone know what time they stop serving food for those that are open in March? Especially the one in the English Garden.

Hey Karen, which of the 4 are you referring? Just curious, but how late are you planning to be there? All 4 are open until 1am, not sure how late you can get food. I'm going in May but that won't help you!

The beer gardens don't open til the weather is nice, it's apparently not a set date but based on when winter seems to finally go away. If you're traveling any time other than late March I wouldn't count on any even being open. Even in late March if it's still chilly they might not be open yet. I was just asking friends about this yesterday and they told me not to expect any to be open at least until mid-March. (My sister in law is visiting in early March, she'll miss out on the English Garden biergartens sadly) If they are open, food service times will still vary this early in the year, I think. My local biergarten (at the schlossgarten in Stuttgart) stops serving food at random hours, based on how cold/dark it is and how many people are there. But the food generally isn't the attraction at a biergarten, and at ones that aren't connected to a proper restaurant you can bring your own food anyway! If they aren't open, you can still get a typisch Munchen experience at the Augustiner (in RS' book, west of the train station away from the center of town) or at the Hofbrauhaus (but I don't recommend eating there, the food is substandard and overpriced). The biergarten at the Viktualienmarkt is listed as being open year round until 22:00 except Saturdays til 19:00 and closed on Sundays. I would imagine - but can't guarantee - that means you can get food at the markt until those closing times. The food is at various stalls and everything I've had has been cheap and delicious. Hope this helps (instead of confusing you further!)

Thanks everyone! We plan on going to the one at the Chinese tower but wanted to go for a late lunch, early dinner if possible. We'll be there at the end of March so hopefully it will be open.

You'll have no problems getting food at the Chinese Tower at that time of day if they're open to begin with, and they probably will be!
