Munich 1 night

Hello, I will be staying in Munich for one night on my way back to the US. Anyone have any hotel recommendations under 100 euro? Not really wanting to stay in a hostel this time around. I will be arriving around 3pm and will be leaving the next morning for the airport. I was hoping to go to Dachau concentration camp if time permits...anyone done that before know how much time you need there? I hear its just a 20 minute train ride from the city center then a 10 min bus ride.... thanks! If anyone has any recommendations on what other recommendations to fill the time if I do not make it to Dachau...I was thinking Hofbraeuhaus too.

I stayed in hotel Atlanta, 50 Euro, bathroom in the hallway, breakfast included. About 5 minutes walk from Mariaplatz, the very center of Munich.

From the downtown S-Bahn "trunk" (Hauptbahnhof, Marienplatz, München Ost) take the S2 direction Petershausen to Dachau. The bus stop to the Memorial is well marked in front of the station. The Memorial is closed on Mondays and closes at 5 PM other days. You won't have much time. The last English guided tour is at 1 PM. Entrance is free, so you can go in and look around. They also rent audio guides for €3. Here is a reasonable place to stay in Freising. It's not in town, but a short bus ride to the airport in the morning. I never met the host. The room is all set up, including everything you need for breakfast and it's about ½ km walk to the bus.

Scott, this place may work for you, as it's BOTH a hotel and a hostel: http://www.the4you.de/ Most of it is a hostel, but the upper-floors have hotel-rooms (not luxurious, but large, clean, comfortable, etc.) with private bathroom. But b/c most of the building is a hostel, it keeps the cost down. I don't recall exactly what it cost....but do recall it being VERY reasonable. Breakfast is served in a pleasant, convivial common-room Location is convenient, too, it's a very quick walk from the Hauptbanhof (train station) on a quiet side-street (so it's quiet at night). And the Marianplatz is just a few minutes away, too; very easy to walk over to the Marienplatz, Glockenspiel, Hofbrauhaus, etc. Re: Dachau; I recall doing that over the course of 1 morning. The train to the town of Dachau (via S-Bahn) is around 40 minutes and then from the station, there are buses marked "KZ" that take you to the camp/memorial. I spent several hours (maybe 2.5 or so) at Dachau itself; I seem to recall leaving Munich at around 9 AM and was back in early-ish afternoon. With your arrival at 3 and flight the following AM, seems to me you'd be cutting it tight, at best. It's a sobering, educational, emotional and important experience, and one I suggest to everyone going to Munich....but with your time constraint, just don't think there's time.....
