I plan to train from Salzburg to Munich to a convenient place near the airport. I have trouble figuring the ease of access to schwaig to munich. Is there a train or is it ubahn or sbahn ? Looking at the holiday inn express there or Or Neuwirt hof in hallbergmoos? Any experiences out there? thx
The best place I have found to stay in before a morning flight from MUC is Freising. It's a 20 min bus trip from the Freising Bahnhof to the airport. Schwaig is a 3 hour complicated trip with connections in Nürnberg and others. Don't consider it.
Hi Gary, We stayed twice at the Moevenpick in Hallbergmoos. It's in an office park like setting. Nothing to do in the immediate area. More recently we stayed at the Park Hotel (Best Western) in Erding. Charming old town is 5 min. walk from the hotel, train station is down the street and it's only 20 minutes from the airport. We loved spending our last evening and night in Erding and the Park Hotel. Paul
We have stayed in Freising 5 times before leaving at the Munich Airport. It is actually a nice town for your last night in country. We have stayed at the Hotel zur Gred < 10 min from the Bahnhof and the Hotel Bayerischer Hof at the town center. We have used Bus 635 from the train station to the airport as Lee suggested. Gasthof Hüber is one of our favorite meal stops in Germany.
Sometimes it's better to look at official timetables than personal recollections. According to the MVV website, Freising Bahnhof by bus to the Munich airport takes 18 minutes. Erding Bahnhof to the airport takes at least 33 minutes.
Well, sorry, but you said, "train station is down the street and it's only 20 minutes from the airport", so I did assume you meant the bus that goes from the train station to the airport, for 5,20€. I mentioned the 20 min (2,60€) bus from Freising Bhf to the airport, but if we are talking taxis, Google says by car it's 14 minutes from Freising Bhf. I often stay at a hotel in Poing, on the Erding S-Bahn line, and take the S-Bahn into Leuchtenbergring, then the S8 to the airport. It takes 55 min. I've compared that to the S-Bahn to Erding and the bus from there to the airport, so I knew how long the bus takes. From Poing it's faster to the airport via Leuchtenbergring than through Erding.
Hi Gary (and Lee) Let me clarify... it's 20 minutes by hotel shuttle or taxi. We needed to be at the airport at 5am and the hotel even had a special breakfast ready for us at 3:30am., due to our early departure. Lee, don't be so quick to assume someone is wrong.
I was looking at the holiday inn express Schwaig bei munchen....transport from munich and then to airport....any thoughts?
