We're flying into Geneva, Switzerland in early September, then to Mt Blanc. What is the better base for touring -- Chamonix/Argentiere in France or Courmayeur/Entreves in Italy?
The lifts over Blanc depart from each so I assume there isn't much difference in that regard. Which side is preferable for accommodations (availability and cost), hiking, car parking, congeniality, etc?

I can't speak to Courmayeur, but we spent a week in Chamonix last summer, and didn't begin to touch on all the hiking opportunities. Lifts and hiking paths go up both sides of the town, as well as from numerous other places along the valley. We found everyone very congenial; we speak a bit of French but it was unnecessary as so many people from the UK vacation there that English is widely spoken.
