Early June/2014 Husband/Wife We are planning on Lake Como, Dolomites, Venice... Would like to do Mont Blanc .... is it best to base out of Milan and go to Mont Blanc or can you fly into Geneva...go to Mont Blanc and then on to Lake Como? What is a good length of stay in Mont Blanc Thanks Rick

I would fly into Geneva and then head to Chamonix, the town in the French Alps that is at the base of Mont Blanc. About a 2.5 hour drive - it's beautiful along the shore of Lake Geneva, through the lower part of Valais and then over the pass to France. You can take the cabine up to the Aguille du Midi, the highest place you can go in Europe without an ice axe! We were just there this summer and it was spectacular. From there you can easily drive down to Lake Como. Depending on what you like to do, you could spend a lot of time in the area of Mont Blanc. Hiking there is just a pleasure with views unmatched anywhere else - I recommend Lac Blanc; great views across the valley of Mont Blanc and numerous glaciers. If you like paragliding then that is a very popular sport in Chamonix. The town of Chamonix is very nice with a nice pedestrian zone. I would recommend 2-3 days depending on how much you want to do.
