Mount Titlis and / or Jungfraujoch

This is my first trip to Switzerland. I would like to know if I should do both or either one. Which has the best view?

Comparing Titlis and Jungfrau, is like comparing apple and oranges. Titlis does give you a panoramic style view, whereas Jungfrau, even though its at a higher altitude, gets you a glacier valley view. In addition you can take an elevator down to the glacier and walk around a bit, then take the elevator down even more an walk inside the glacier and view the ice gallery. At Jungfrau you get more of a "Mt. Everest" type experience as you feel like you are truly at the top of the world-almost.

The are very different in terms of how you get there---perhaps that will help you make up your mind. You go up Mt. Titlis in a large cablecar, one that rotates as you rise so the view changes. But if you don't like the idea of a cablecar, you might not like this. To get to Jungfraujoch, you go by train, so you are not suspended up in the air. However, a good portion of the trip after you leave Kleine Scheidegg is in a tunnel inside the mountain (the Eiger). So there are no views, although the train stops once at a window cut through the rock. Some people with clautrophobia do not like this long ride in a tunnel--as I recall, it is about 45 minutes.

Either way, our experience (at Jungfraujoch) was to go as early as possible in the day, because the clouds tend to move in as the day goes on. The Jungfraubahn is rather expensive, and is much less impressive if you're up in the clouds without a view. Bring a picnic lunch to eat on the hillside down at Kleine Sheideg (sp?), after you come back down. The view back up toward the mountains is awesome. One of our best memories of Switzerland.

I have only done the Jungfrau and I can tell you this; It was some of the best money spent. Being at the top of the mountain was exhilerating. I'm quite sure I am not going to climb any 12K foot peaks any time soon, so getting a ride up to that altitude is a gift. Once your up there, there's plenty to do. The station complex/observatory is quite large and has some interesting things to see and do. However, my greatest moment was going outside and taking the hike to the mountain hut. The sign said 45mins; it took 90mins. You get a good distance from the main complex before you zero in on the hut. Once there you get a warm hut (cold bathroom), hot food, refreshments, and the knowledge that the trip back to the observatory is all downhill. An awsome adventure for the average couch potato. Note; if you go, bring at minimum one liter of H2O per person. You'll get dehydrated and water is very expensive up there. Having a couple of asprin available is not a bad idea either
