Mother and daughter in France in June

My 20 yr old daughter and I will be in France for 10 days in June. We fly in and out of Nice. Our tentative plans are to spend the 1st few days around Nice, then take a train to Paris for 3 nights then head back to Nice. We've thought about going to Switzerland or Germany for a day on our way back to Nice. We are on a budget and neither of us feel we have to see/do it all. Any suggestions for this trip would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Cathy, agree with previous advice, train to Paris is a long journey from Nice. There is a ton to do just within 100 miles from Nice. There is Provence area, Avignon, Marsailles, Cannes, Monaco, and much more. All of it is beautiful, great food, wonderful views, old hilltowns, amazing views, huge yachts, and more. You can rent a car and go and discover the area on your own, drive along the coast, discover small hilltowns (Roussillion is our favorite) in Provence, stand amongst fiels of lavendar, walk amongst house size yachts, it is all very cool Enjoy!

You said you fly in and out of Nice. Does that mean you already have your tickets?

Yes, we've already purchased our tickets. My daughter will be meeting me in Nice, after spending 5 wks. study abroad in Rome. My thoughts were to spend the first few days close to Nice...maybe St. Tropez, Grasse, Cannes, the Chagall and/or Matisse museum. Train to Paris for 3 nights, then back to Nice and maybe see Monaco, La Trophee des Alpes/La Turbie. I've decided against renting a car, so we will be restricted by train/bus routes. Again, any an all suggestions greatly appreciated.

"Yes, we've already purchased our tickets."

Well, the fact that you're committed to doubling back to Nice isn't as bad as it sounds. Even though Paris to Nice is a lot of miles, the high speed trains make the trip in about 6 hours, that's one way, station to station time; add for the time to get to the station, wait for the train, etc., it will use up most of a day.

Between Nice and Paris you could fly easyJet one way and take the direct night train the other way. The night train will save you the cost of a night in a hotel and give you more daylight hours for sightseeing. Or if you decide to go to Switzerland or Germany on the way back to Nice, you could take the night train to Paris and whatever daytime trains you need to get back to Nice.

Both the Chagall and Matisse museums are wonderful! So is the Picasso museum in Antibes.
