I saw that a few people have stayed at the Motel One chain in Germany, mostly near the airport or on the autobahn. Has anyone stayed at this chain in Nuernberg (the one near the bahnhof) or Muenchen (the one near Sendlinger Tor)? It looks great online and gets good reviews on Trip Advisor, but it is a chain...
I went out to the one in Frankfurt, just to check it out, and I have to say I was impressed. The front desk clerk was very friendly, the decor is nice - turquoise and brown, the rooms were basic but still very nice. They have good handicapped facilities too. The best part is the cost is decent and during trade fairs in the various cities I don't believe they raise the prices up like in many hotels. I would guess that the hotels in Muenchen and Nuernberg will also be nice.
Actually, the chain comment was a bit of a joke. I lived in Nuernberg for 3 years and mostly stayed in smaller places when I traveled then. This trip I'm hoping for something more modern, so I'm glad to hear that this company is doing a good job. And I gotta love the colors. They're the same as my room when I was a little girl in San Antonio back in the (gasp!) 1950's.
I stayed at the one in Nurenberg and I was very happy with it. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the place was very clean. Despite being right besides the rail road tracks, I wasn't bothered by any noise. It is only a few minutes walk to the old town and very close to the train station.
