In June, which would be the best (most scenic, interesting) route by car:
Bern to Basel or Bern to Geneva?
Thanks!
Go to this map website http://maps.google.com/maps and you'll see that the Alps are located south of the two routes you mentioned. You can use the online map to plan a route that will take you into the Alps.
Thank you. We will be visiting Interlaken by car, and I am trying to decide which airport to depart from.
In your original post you didn't mention that you're visiting Interlaken. Hopefully this means you'll be visiting the area loosely called the Lauterbrunnen Valley and specifically the small Alpine villages above the valley. If so, you'll already have seen the jaw-dropping Alpine views there, Yosemite Valley on steroids. The online maps (the Google Map link I provided and also www.viamichelin.com) will show you which airport is most conveniently located for you to drive to.
Yes, we'll be in that area for two days, and I hope we'll be able to see some of those views! Last time it was completely fogged in. According to my previous research, the driving routes (time and distance) are not significantly different, nor are airfares out of the two airports, so I'm looking for opinions on the most scenic route out on our way home. I used "Alps" in my subject line hoping to attract the attention of those who know the area.
Thanks again.
That clarifies what you actually wanted to know. The drive to Geneva is the better of the two choices. If you're not in too much of a hurry, that is. Then you'll have time to get off the highway to see the south shore of Lac du Neuchatel and the north shore of Lac Leman.
