We will be travieling from S. Germany to Milan via Switzerland. What is a faster route? Zurich or Bern
Some of the runs go through Bern, Spiez, Brig and then south into Italy. Other runs go differently down through Gotthard and Lugano and then onto Milan. Journey times vary between 3hrs-49min and 4hrs-55min. There is a CIS train that departs Zurich (CIS 13) at 7:01 that takes 3hrs-49min. No train changes. It looks like a "tilting train". These are the fastest trains as the carriage leans into the turns. It's also the most expensive.
Thanks for the info,
Do I need to pay more for this train through Switzerland if I have a swiss pass? How can I tell from the schedule on the Swiss rail website if it is a tilting train. Is that what cis means?
Thanks
In looking at the Trenitalia website, I believe that "cis" is the tilting train. According to www.cisalpino.com, look for trains CIS 13 and CIS 15. These are the tilting trains from Zurich HB to Florence and Milan. You can easily see these runs with those train numbers on the Swiss train website www.sbb.ch
