My daughter and I will be in Paris later today after traveling from Venice. We were eaten alive in Venice by mosquitoes and wanted to know what to expect in Paris. Unfortunately the citronella spray we purchased in a local pharmacy isn't helping. I appreciate any feedback - thanks in advance!
I get eaten alive by mosquitoes in Italy but I've never, ever gotten any mosquito bites in my many trips to Paris.
I haven't noticed a problem myself.. but I am not a bug magnet like I know some people are.
Nothing like Venice.
Thank you all for your replies -- it makes us feel so much better!
Maple,
I was in Paris at the beginning of June, and didn't see a single Mosquito. If there are any in Paris, I sure didn't encounter them.
Happy travels!
It’s funny you should ask, because I just read an article about a widespread Asian mosquito infestation in northern parts of France. Apparently, the hot days and rain have caused the population to explode, and they’re spraying to try to control it. The article was from late June.
Michael I read that article as well. So I guess it pays to bring some DEET or whatever with you. And there are always the pharmacies in Paris...Green Cross ....always helpful
Here we are taught that mosquitoes are worse at sundown.
We did not encounter any mosquitoes in Paris.
I live 30 minutes outside of Paris and the same mosquito comes by every night, but it's just one...and eventually i'll get him..
Venice sits in an estuary, the perfect breeding ground for mosquitos. As far as I know, there is no body of stagnant water anywhere near Paris. You should be fine.
I suggest you offer a Sauvignon Blanc. Any self respecting French mosquitoes would likely be so aghast at drinking white wine with meat that they'd probably faint before biting.
