Hi, during my trip to Germany, I plan to go to Burg Eltz. I know it isn't an all day tour, does anyone have suggestions to what we spend the rest of the day doing nearby? We will have a car, so getting around will be easy.
I was thinking of going to Trier, but it's my brothers personal opinion that Trier is overrated. Anything small and local I think we would enjoy. Thanks!

We also had a car and stayed in Beilstein. It's a little picturesque town right on river Mosel. Burg Eltz it's not too far from there (at least by car).

Wine tasting at some of the Mosel estates. Also some walks in and around the vineyards with views over the river

If you're tired of the medieval/renaissance stuff, Traben-Trarbach has some nice art nouveau buildings.

Cochem is right between Burg Eltz and Traben-Trarbach; the Reichsburg was spectacular there, and it's less than 30 minutes; we also liked Traben-Trarbach and every stop along the Mosel on our cruise 2 years ago. Amazing area. Happy travels. Mike
