Morocco - Marrakech and Tangier Hotels & Must See Sights

My father and I (both adults) are traveling to Morrocco the middle of October. Right now we are planning to spend three nights in Tangier and than three or four nights in Marrakech. I'm looking for hotel suggestions and must see sights in and around Tangier and Marrakech. We are flying Madrid to Tangier and than Marrakech back to Madrid. We both live in USA.

Thanks Chris, I checked the Riad dar Najat web-site, The Raid looks impressive and reasonably priced. The GHIZLANE ROOM might work quite well for dad and I. I also like that they have an english speaking staff. Are you planning any day trips while you are visiting Marrakech?

Joe, We stayed at Dar Nour (darnour.com) in Tangier a little under 2 years ago. We loved the guest house, our room, the town/water views from the terraces. The owners are extremely helpful and knowledgeable (speak English) about where to go and what to see. They arranged our pick up from the harbor. The place was just awesome - decorated traditionally and tastefully. The breakfast (included) served on the terrace was superb, with a great array of food choices. We pre-ordered dinner for our first night arrival and ate with other guests who had done the same. The meal was served in the house's dining room and was exquisite. I believe we had free wi-fi and there was a computer for guest's use.

Thank you G.Maria, I took a look at the web-site for the hotel that you mentioned in your post. It looks wonderful, and much better than the other options dad and I have been considering. I appreciate that you responded to my post. Would you mind telling me how many days that you spent in Tangier? We fly in to Tangier on a Saturday from Madrid, and we are thinking that we will take the night train to Marrakech on Monday or Tuesday. Joe

Hi Joe! Oliver from Riad dar Najat is extremely helpful, accommodating, and welcoming. We are actually taking the ferry from either Algieciras or Tarifa and will be in Morocco for 10 days the end of October-early November. We have made arrangements with a local guide for those 10 days. He will meet us at the ferry and drive us to Fes for 3 nights with an afternoon stop in Chefchaouen. I arranged our riad in Fes but our guide will take us to Meknes and Voulibis and arrange for a local Fes guide to tour there. From there we go to Merzouga for 2 nights - one night in a riad and the next night we do a camel safari and sleep in a Berber tent. We then make our way to Marrakech via the Dades Valley/Todra Gorge and an overnite. We are in Marrakech for 3 nights and our guide will be with us there as well. I believe most of the staff at the riads can help you making touring arrangements for day trips. We decided we wanted a guide/driver who can share their culture with us along the way. We fly back to Madrid from Marrakech for an overnight before heading home to US. We are actually doing Madrid and Andalusia the 10 days before Morocco.

Hello Chris, It sounds like you have a wonderful trip planned. I love your itenary. Having a private guide and car seems like a most excellent approach. I like the personal touch. There seems to be a lot of warnings on-line about making sure to pick the right guide. Your idea about using the Hotel for help makes sense. Thank you. Joe
