Morocco and Spain

Hello My husband and I are doing a guided hike through the Atlas mountains in Morocco in July and were considering flying open jaw so we can spend a few days relaxing in Southern Spain afterwards. I am unfamiliar with Spain beyond Barcelona and Madrid, does anyone have any suggestions about sleepy little towns, preferably with a beach, that we could go to? And also which city it would be best to fly into from Marrakesh to get there? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dear Amanda: If you were to fly to Malaga (there are a few flights from Morocco) and take bus/train trips from there, you would be able to see a lot of the coast to the East (sleepier villages). Nerja is a lovely seaside town to the West. Inland, I like Antequera, Ronda and of course Granada and Cordoba. All of these will be half-day accessible by train and bus from Malaga, where the Cathedral and the Picasso Museum are stand-outs, in my mind. The Malaga bus and train stations, across the street from each other, make it easy to get most anywhere in the area. You can't go wrong! Enjoy! Phyllis

Tarifa was nicer than I expected. It's fairly small, has some nice beaches, cafes, lodging - plus a windsurfing community. If you want even quieter, you can head toward Cadiz up the Costa de la Luz and find a series of very small towns with lots of empty beaches.
