Montreux, Switzerland

Montreux is very expensive. You might look in Vevey, which is just about a 5 minute train ride from Montreux. There are some lower priced hotels there, some close to the train station....althought the closest is a little noisy and could use some updating. Trains run every 10 minutes or so between the towns and there is also bus service. Don't know if that helps. Swiss hotels seem to be like everything else there, a little more than what you'd want to pay!

We are staying at the Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic in mid-June...not cheap, but right across from the train...fabulous views of The lake! You pay for location and view, unfortunately!!

Actually, we were just discussing that hotel! Trying to decide if we'll be there enough enjoying the view to justify the cost. (Funny if we cross paths there and we're probably within 20 miles of each other here!) Thanks for your reply!

When we went to Montreux we stayed in Lausanne at the Hotel du Boulevard. I recommend the hotel. It has large rooms for Europe and Lausanne is nice and the Olympics Museum is worth a visit. You can take the train or a boat to Montreux from there.

Re Kathy's comment above, we love the Olympic Museum, but it's closed for renovations until the end of 2013, unfortunately.

Linda, yes it would be interesting if we crossed paths...if you see two women with 3 girls under 12, that's us :-)). My sister and I are in Montreux June 14-16...have a great trip!
