How safe is it to walk around Montemarte at night for young college students (female)? We'll be in Paris before going to our classes in the south of France and want to party but we also want to be safe.

Use good judgment and as a group you should be ok. Make it an early night and stay together. it is pretty there day or night.

How far is the distance or walk?

We did it and ended up at the Opera by dead reckoning. We did this during the day, at night, it could be confusing. It was a great walk, all downhill and saw neighborhoods we would have missed. I think it took about 30 to 45 minutes.

WOW thats great --
I've walked from The Metropolitan Museum of Art (In NY) where I work down to Chinatown (with a couple of stops) we made it down in 3 hours... so 45 min is really not bad thats The Met to Times SQ I do the walk every other day in the summer a great walk though the park

it's a very long walk from montemarte to the center of paris. you're better off walk to the moulin rouge to get a taste of the redlight district. i wouldn't party there though.
