We are taking a cruise and will have from 7AM-3PM in Monte Carlo. We pan to do on our own and would prefer to go outside Monte Carlo. My main question is with the limited time we have would it be best to do public transportation or rent a car? I was thinking of visiting Eze. Should we just stick with that or would we have time to see more?
Jennifer, with such a limited time frame I would recommend NOT renting a car. You'd need to allow time for getting to the rental agency, completing the paperwork, returning the car and then getting back to the launch. That would likely take well over an hour or more. Public transportation is good in that area, and if you plan well you should have no difficulty getting to nearby locations. Any ideas on where you might like to visit for the day? Villefranche and Eze are two good choices. Monaco is also good if you want to see the Changing of the Guard at the Royal Palace (11:55 daily as I recall) and the Oceanographic Museum is incredible. There's also the Church where Princess Grace and Prince Rainier are interred. Nice would be another choice, although it's a bit farther. Happy travels!
There is a bus, No. 112, from Monaco to Eze Village. You can get the schedule on line. It doesn't run Sundays. Depending on what time you are actually able to leave the ship, I think you would have time for Eze and a walk around Nice, if that appeals.
Eze is very small and canbe seen inless than hr unless you enjoy a meal there. For monaco allow min 3 hrs. I would not rent a car just for Eze hopefully the bus is running the day you are there.
