Monte Carlo

I will be visitng Monte Carlo for one day on a cruise. Wanting some advice on what to see and how much we can do in a day. We port at 10:00 and leave at 7:00pm. I am intersted in visiting Eze, and wondered if we had time to see Ville France? Any suggestions for Monte Carlo, travelling with a child so the casino is out! Also what is the best way to travel to Eze, and make sure I see the higher up Eze?
Look forward to your input!

To answer your question more directly. You can take the train to Villefrance and then on to Nice. From Nice a bus to Eze. There is not much to see in Villefrance other than the beach -- and it is topless. As I vaguely remember it is less than an hour to Nice via train. My recommendation would be to see MCarlo well and save Eze for another visit since you really don't have that much time. You may or may not be docked at MCarlo. The dock only handles two ships as I remember so being tendered is a possible. There are a number of museums that are interesting. The prince's auto collection is interesting if you like cars and nautical museum has a huge collection of model ships which could be of an interest the child, especially a male child.

Bus #112 goes from Monte-Carlo to Eze-le-Village. Buses leave from la Crémaillère (near the casino) at 09:45 (too early for you), 11:25 (longer than you may want to wait), and later. If you want to make Eze your first stop, to make the best use of your time you might need to take a taxi.

See the timetables here.

Planing on devoting your entire shore period to Monte Carlo is senseless since:

The guard-changing ceremony occurs only once daily (at around noon).

The yachts are difficult to appreciate since they are jammed gunwale to gunwhale in a "Med moor" (stern to warf) making only their rear ends visible.

There is a great deal to see inside the casino, however, dress codes make it impracticle for casually attired tourists to go beyond the slot machines located near the entrance, and going even this far is allowed only during limited hours.

The acquarium has since been eclipsed (e.g. by Valencia). Interestingly, it has become infamous for allowing a shallow-water plant to escape from its tanks and clobber the bathing beaches and in-shore fishing industry from Spain to Italy.

Eze would be an excellent use of your time.

There is a train station up the hill from the Monte Carlo casino. You can be in Nice in under an hour. Now that Nice has a tram system, it is easier to get around. Old Town Nice is worth a few hours, with produce market, restaurants, intersting walks, etc. The bus from Monte Carlo will take you closer to the Old Town of Nice, but takes longer than the train.

If you want a taste of Italy, by train it would be less than an hour to Ventimille (Ventimiglia) which is near the border, has a nice beach and promenade, and great places to buy liquor for less than in France.
