Mont Michel in France

How to get to Mont Michel from Paris for a one day trip

I assume that you are referring to Mount Saint-Michel. It's a bit difficult to do in one day. I'm not good with the details but I do know that the train only goes so far and then you need to catch public transport to the area. I remember is being said that it can take many hours, maybe up to four, each way. IMO a day trip is not worth the effort even if one has their own rented car. Best to spend two days at the least.

I suggest picking up Rick's guidebook. It's great with Mont Saint-Michel information!

Yes, lots of great info on Mont St. Michel in RS France guide, as well as all of France.

We are combining a Mont St. Michel trip with the D-Day beaches, with one night at a B&B near the Mont. You may want to consider staying a night near Mont St. Michel- I have Rick's book and he recommends visiting the Mont very early or very late to avoid the massive crowds. That said, I think the transportation would involve taking a train to Pontorson and then catching a local bus north about 5 miles to the Mont.

We actually did a side trip from Paris that involved staying two nights in Saint-Malo, Brittany. On one of the days, we drove along the coast to Mont-Saint Michel, following Rick's advice to be there for the evening when the crowds thin out. We then went out on to the mud flats for the sunset, and it was so beautiful--one of the top experiences of my life, really. Rick says how to do all this in his guidebook for that area of France. Saint-Malo was a very cute town that we liked better than we expected to. We also needed the break after days of me dragging my husband around the top sites Paris (he spent a year there as a kid and had returned a lot, but it was my first time after years of taking French and wanting to go). We had chosen Saint-Malo due to relative proximity to Mont-Saint Michel and the fact that my husband had been to neither Brittany nor MSM before, and it was really the best part of the trip. I loved Paris, but I need to take it easier there next time to really enjoy it.

Kim- we did a one day train trip, were picked up at the end of the line, toured three cities including Mont St Michel. I think the tour company was Paris Links.
