I was looking at Monschau and it looks gorgeous. We will be driving from Luxembourg city and seeing Vianden and Clervaux that day and would like to go to Monschau. Is this too much for one day?? THANKS!! Is there more we can see?

The drive from Luxembourg City to Vianden is an hour. From there to Clervaux about half an hour. From there to Monschau is 1:20 hrs. And from Monschau back to Luxembourg city is 2:10 hrs. So the net driving time alone would be 5 hours on that day. Of course you do see a lot of scenerey from the car as well. Some people are very happy with spending 60 to 90 mins per stop only. Others need more time. This is up to you. Personally I would do it...

We loved Monschau, but there are many substitutes for it, esp. in Germany, but also Northern Switzerland, France, and Belgium. For example, I would include Strasbourg, even though it's not as pure and isolated as Monschau. If you're spending a lot of time in France, Perouges is even better, but different from Monschau. And if you're going to Cesky Krumlov, you don't need Monschau.
