Hello - The only day we are able to visit Versailles this summer is of course on a Monday when they are closed. However, the gardens are open every day and are actually free on Mondays. So, is it worth the trip just to see the gardens on a Monday? Can you see the outside of the Trianon Palaces and Marie-Antoinette's Estate when exploring the gardens, or are these somehow closed off and restricted from view as one tours the gardens on Mondays? Though I've carefully looked through the official website, I am still unclear about what can be seen on a summer Monday walking through the gardens. Thank you for any information on this!
I'd say it is well worth it. But I find the gardens far more interesting than the palace itself. You can see everything. I imagine that the Trianons and Hamlet are closed for tours, but you can walk around and see them from the outside. You can spend a couple hours at least just walking the gardens. You might consider bringing a picnic lunch too and eating down along the canal.
Thanks so much! We will make the visit.
We rented a golf cart in the gardens. We had a great time and it was beautiful. We went in the middle of winter (Feb). So the fountains were not working and the trees were dormant and it was still beautiful. We did visit the palace and I warn you, you will want to return to see that beautiful palace. If your going to rush it and there are other places you want to visit in Paris, I would just skip it. It does take some time to get out there and back to the Paris; if your staying in Paris? Paris can be such a great place on it's own.
