Our trip is really just about Paris and Monaco. But this is my g/f's first trip to Europe and though it would only be for a while, I'd like to surprise her by saying "let's head to Italy for the day". Monaco to Ventimiglia looks very close by map, but is it easy, expensive, or worth the time/effort to get there? It would be only a half-day trip as it looks like 8 miles apart by map.
It's easy and cheap. Local trains run east from Monaco twice an hour, and their last stop is Ventimiglia.
It's a 24-minute train ride and the fare is €4.00.
Yes, go over for lunch. If you are driving, you can take the coast road through Menton.
Are you driving, or taking the train? The station is small, but has a great store and expresso stand. The take-away cups are fascinating. Coming into town from the west exposes you to true poverty along the river. The town is not a big shaker, especially after the French towns (my opinion), and scarcely worth the trip if you are expecting something quite attractive (again, my opinion, but I'm quite easy to please).
It's good to get lots of opinions.. We won't be driving, it would be train, taxi, or bus. Fee to get there figures in the decision, I see that train is cheap
