Monaco Aquarium

Leaving for our trip to Southern France for a few days. One day will be in Monaco. Is the aquarium worth the visit and how much time do you need to see it.

I enjoyed it, you will like it if you are into these kind of things. Time depends on how fast you are moving, it took me about 1.5 hours, if I recall. Don't forget to check out the view from the roof.

Tom, I also quite enjoyed visiting the Oceanographic Museum, and found it very interesting. There's a LOT to see on several floors, so I'd allow at least two hours. Are you planning to see the Changing of the Guard at the Royal Palace (11:55 daily, as I recall)? If so, I'd suggest going early to "stake out" a spot as the plaza fills up quickly just before show time. Happy travels!

We really enjoyed it but then we are fish people. A couple of hours should suffice. There is a cafe on the roof with terrific views but the service was terrible and the food poor. I don't know if that is indicative of their usual standards or if we were just there on a bad day. Anyway, it is still a nice place for a cool drink and a great photo.

I found the aquarium very worthwhile. Other highlights for me were the Jardin Exotique and the Prince's car collection (they are adamant that it's not a "museum"). I was also interested to see how Monaco is literally a rock (like I imagine Gibralter is) and so is easy to defend.

I absolutely love the aquarium. It is far improved over when I first saw it in 1972 and I loved it then. A couple of years ago I spent about 3 hours just in one area, near one of the biggest tanks, just watching a turtle interacting with a few fish. It was mesmerising especially as I could walk around the tank and see things from the other side. There is loads and loads of interesting stuff. But then again, you only have one day. You would probably go through it quicker than I did. I was in Monaco for a week and it was a regular stop for me. There are all sorts of other things to do in Monaco, too.
