Hi! Just wondering if anyone knows how long of a drive it is from Salzburg to Mittenwald? Any opinions on accomadations? Thanks, Linda
Hi Linda,
If you drove non stop, about 3 hours - If you want to make a day of the drive (we've done this before) drive south/west from Salzburg to Werfen (nice castle here) head west, take the Gerlos pass and up to Innsbruck and then north to Mittenwald.
Probably the most direct route would be Salzburg, west through Berchtesgaden area, into Austria: Lofer, St. Johann and around Worgl, either take the highway or 171 which parallels the highway to just past Innsbruck and up to Mittenwald.
In Mittenwald, we've stayed twice ('05 and '06) at Pension Schwalbennestl. Frau Bader's a very nice woman who owns/runs it. Very good buffet brekfast, nice rooms (pic's on the website are old) and killer views overlooking Mittenwald and the mountains. You feel you can reach out and touch them! Only about a 10 min. walk to the old center. Their website is only in German, but you can
e-mail and correspond in English.
