We will be purchasing tickets to the Mirabell Palace for the evening of July 1st. Are the reserved front row seats worth the extra price, or do the seats further back have the same view?
I attended two concerts at Mirabell in the fall of 2010. The room has a flat wood floor; seats are not anchored. If you're interested in watching the technique of any musician, then you should sit in the front row, but you will hear just as well regardless of where you sit. I paid for a reserved seat both times and didn't regret it (though I did not buy a program!). I think that the Mirabell offers the best classical music in Salzburg. The Mirabell is located on Rainerstrasse, which is the street on which the railroad station is located. It's a main drag on the side of the river opposite the historic district. My experience in Salzburg and Vienna is that the cities don't worry too much about placing street signs. I was lost more than once for lack of any street sign! I think I counted just one street sign the whole length of Rainerstrasse. best wishes
I'm sure you'll have a good time. But remember that Salzburg is one of those places that has a lot of "tourist concerts", not all of which are by major ensembles. That said, we were lucky enough to hear a subset of the Camerata Academica in the Marmorsaal of the palace. But all that marble makes the room echo-y, and it was hot and stuffy. We're glad we went, I just don't want you to expect a transporting experience ...
