My wife and I will be spending the first two weeks of February in Sicily (Catania, Sciacca and Palermo). After that, we will have ten days to spend as we like anywhere in Italy. We are looking for a place to relax before returning home and are looking for suggestions. Any suggestion should be peaceful, relatively flat (not too many steps or hills) and somewhat sunny. It can be anywhere in Italy, island or mainland. We speak Italian and welcome small community suggestions. We would like a place where we can slow down and mix with local people. Your help is much appreciated. steve
Steven, you will get many more responses if you post on the "To the Boot" forum. If you are looking for relatively flat places, Florence is good (although make sure your hotel has a lift, many small hotels don't), but that might not be peaceful enough. Ravenna might fit perfectly - it's a smallish town with fabulous art work (mosaics) and a very nice atmosphere. Have you considered Bologna? Verona, Vicenza, Mantova, Padova are all in the same general area and are relatively flat. While none of these places are small towns, if you check for small towns in the same geographic area, you will find some (you could try booking.com, a hotel booking service, and put in a radius of 12 miles or more in your search criteria when you enter the name of a city).
