Mid-March in Paris

It's supposed to be cold and rainy in Paris when I go the 3rd week of March. Any suggestions for rainy/cold day activities? Great cafes? Will there be crepe stands operating at this time? I know the gardens of Versailles will not be in bloom, nor will the fountains be running. Any other places to visit? I checked Giverny - but it's apparently going to be closed- at least the main stuff that tourists see. I've got 7 days to spend.

I think you might find the weather similar to San Francisco, so don't worry too much about having to stay in-doors. On average, Paris has a fairly mild, if wet, climate.

you can still go to Versailles...the flowers and fountains may not be on but there is the palace itself which is open and most likely much less crowded at that time of the year...Chartres Cathedral is beautiful and not too far from Paris, also you could take a train into the Loire and see the chateaus there or go to Normandy for the D-Day beaches if that interests you....You also could stay put in Paris...you can easily fill a week plus there and not see everything :) For the best crepes you must go to Brittany !

What about the hundreds of great museums in Paris -- do any of them interest you? They are all indoors. As is every cafe and fabulous department store -- so many to choose from -- enough activities for a lifetime. You can get crepes at places other than a stand. I'd stay in Paris the entire time unless there is a break in the weather, then I would try to hit Versailles.

Hi. I was in Paris in 2008 in mid February for 10 days. THere were some really cool days, in the morning, just above freezing. Many temperate days and a gloriously warm day with lots of sun; I had a picnic on a bench overlooking the Eiffel Tower. I dressed in a fleece sweater, wind/rain jacket, mittens, wide scarf that I wrapped several times around my neck and I bought an inexpensive beret. The layering really worked for me, as it warmed up, I put the extra in my Civita backpack. I was nice and warm. I visited Versailles; the palace itself is beautiful without the gardens in bloom. The open air markets were in full swing with a lot of fresh fruits and veggies to choose from. Enjoy your trip.

Many of the cafes have outdoor heaters, so you can still sit outside in comfort. At first I just thought the popular cafes had people sitting outside, but it was the heated ones!

I was in Paris in dec. the weather was pretty cold. I just wore layers. It rained a bit but I mostly stayed indoors in museums. There were crepe stand I saw outside. I went to versaille the gardens were not in bloom obviously but it was still worth it to see. The cafes with outdoor seating were heated, I was even able to take off my jacket outside. I'd rather be cold than sweating when I went in July the last time. The there are tons of museums for indoor activity and I found the rain wasn't constant, and I was able to walk around and be outdoors.
