We are planning to spend a week in Austria and will begin in Salzburg, then going to Vienna and Hallstatt. We would like to go to Mauthausen Concentration Camp and also Melk...maybe sleep there one night. How far is Melk from the camp and how much time is needed to see Mauthausen? Also, does anyone know of a central website that tells the hours of the camp? Thanks!

Mauthausen Concentration Camp http://en.mauthausen-memorial.at/index_open.php By car its about an hour and a half from Salzburg to Mauthausen and an hour to to Melk and another hour to Vienna

I'm a WWII history buff and quite honestly 2-3 hours is enough. Its very moving and definitely get the audio guide and use it. I also highly recommend the long trip down to the base of the quarry. It'll bring additional meaning to what you just saw.
