Friends will be flying in from Italy and I will be flying in from the US an hour apart. Where is a good place for us to meet at the airport? Is the customs area centralized, or are there multiple areas in multiple terminals?

If you go to www.easycdg.com, you can enter the name of each airline and find out at which terminal each flight will arrive.
If you're going to take the RER B from CDG to Paris, one good meeting place is the lobby of the Sheraton Hotel which is directly above the TGV/RER station at Terminal 2. Be aware that there are two RER stations at CDG, The CDG 1 RER station is actually next to Terminal 3. The CDG 2 TGV RER station is at Terminal 2.
