Me again - Just a couple of more questions on Normandy

I can stay at the Hotel Reine Mathilde which some have recommended here.

If I stay a Monday and Tuesday night, does the following itinerary make sense:

Early Monday morning drive from Paris to Bayeux to arrive late morning.

Explore Bayeux - Are all museums/tapestry open on Monday?

Tuesday AM - Explore WWII sites.

Tuesday 3:00PM - Drive to Mont St. Michel

Tuesday 4:30 - 8:30 PM - Explore Mont St. Michel and then drive back to Bayeux to arrive late at 10:00 PM.

Wednesday AM - check out and go explore more WWII sites.

Which 2-3 sites would you limit yourself to if you were on this schedule? With kids? Within an easy drive?

Wednesday afternoon - Drive back to Paris.

OK, how does that sound?

Thanks!

Cecily, I read your other posts and I feel because of your prior experiences here, you will have a good trip in Normandy.

Monday: Drive to Bayeux.

The Tapestry is opened until 700pm, and The Battle of Normandy Museum is opened until 630pm.

Tuesday: The Arromanches and then the Longues-sur-Mer Battery are on the beaches.

These two sights will give the kids an understanding of what the allied invasion force was up against. It also will provide the background to D-Day and the achievements made in the first week of the landings.

After the Arromanches museums and sights, you can have time on this beach before visiting the gun battery.

At Longues-sur-Mer, I'd skip the battery tour and the costs. Buy the English leaflet and do it yourselves. There's an observation post here with a great channel view.

Visit MSM.

Wenesday: Visit the American Cemetery.

Drive to Paris.

I'd suggest going to Mont St. Michel first thing Tuesday morning. This will allow you the flexibility to stay longer than 4 hours and not have to possibly return in the dark. You might also consider doing the D-Day beaches Monday & Wednesday and Bayeux Tuesday afternoon.

Cecilly if you rent a car which uses Diesel, make sure you top off before you get into the city. We spied a Shell station at the tip of the Paris proper, and should have stopped.

We ended up paying a small penalty because we couldn't find a gas staton which sold diesel.
