Strictly speaking, that's not "in the Louvre." IME it's just an underground shopping mall that happens to have an entrance to the Louvre under the pyramid.

Correct, but it's very close and part of the whole ambience of the area.

As I recall, its just like many food courts in Malls, there are some good choices, and some bad choices, , and now,, there will just be one more bad one. I don't think it will affect the amibence of the Louvre at all, since it is not actually in the Louvre,, and there do seem to be strict rules about signage size in Paris, note that signs for the free standing Mcdonalds are never as large as they are here in North America

What's the big deal? There's already one across the street, and the Carrousel du Louvre already has a Virgin Megastore. On my last trip to Paris I noticed there is now a McDonalds inside the Galeries Lafayette. If Ronald is okay for one of the world's most exclusive Department Stores, it's okay for the Louvre.

I was there a few years back and we ate lunch at the underground food court. It's true; it's no different in ambiance than any other food court in an American mall. I did think it was cool the variety of fast foods offered there (Greek, Indian, mid-Eastern,and others), which we don't have in our town's shopping mall.

We're always on the lookout for Mickey D's in France for one reason.... Free WiFi. My fiancee hates the idea of eating at McD in France but has caved in to the idea that it's a reliable way to find WiFi in unfamiliar French cities. Great way to find a quick hotel if driving through Europe, plus they do serve beer. One advantage over our McD in the states. Will they have wine at the Louvre I wonder?

Nothing is sacred, but hopefully the french fries are good!

You mean the Freedom Fries? :)

Yes, they should ALL be underground…in a landfill!

What do McDonald's and the Porn industry have in common?.....Both rake in zillions of dollars each year, but nobody admits to patronizing them;)

Indeed, let’s include the equally abhorrent and repulsive Starbuck’s and Wal-Mart in the worldwide boycott!

Oh, yeah! The HORROR! It's a good thing I had a fainting couch nearby when I heard this news, cuz I succumbed to a serious case of the vapors!

After all, when I'm briskly waddling into a Paris McDo avoiding eye contact with the staff for the purpose of whisking my cheapskate self toward the FREE and relatively clean PUBLIC-ish bathroom, I like to smugly remind myself I'd never EAT there. I mean, sitting around all those people who've long ago jettisoned their last shreds of self-respect would be loathsome.

I'd probably go for a cheap, fast meal at McD's in Europe oftener if it weren't for the massive crowds there. If you want something French and not McD's, but just the same--go to QUICK. They probably use French beef.

Swan,,french beef,, yuck,, no, I had a Quick burger once, and it was positively horrible.. mystery pattie for sure.

McDonald's in France use French beef as well. In fact they use almost exclusively French agricultural products to show that they support French farming. Their McBeer's are French too.

Actually I have noticed that many foreign companies that operate in France rapidly switch to the French way of doing things: when Disneyland opened in Paris in the 1990s they were originally not going to allow consumption of alcohol in the park, until they realised that parents would simply not go there if they couldn't have wine with their lunch. And no parents = no kids. Therefore Disney relented.

I'm happy to learn that local products are used in the French McD's. In Italy a few years ago I noticed that one McD's had a separate coffee bar, so you could stop there for morning cappuccino and brioche. McD's, at that time, was the only place I could find that had coffee "to go."

And, the poor Cubans can only salivate and dream as they peer towards Gitmo’s Golden Arches. I believe the only continent yet to be conquered by Ronald’s elite forces is Antarctica, but this may change once the boys in the board room over in Oak Brook figure out that there’s a bunch of cheap meat in those Southern Elephant seals (or I guess that was kangaroo meat).

If the MacDonald's will be in the underground mall along with Starbucks, Virgin Records and other shops I guess we can't complain, unless you want to complain about the whole mall.

The headline makes it sound as if you would be walking past the Mona Lisa eating a Big Mac. Although the whole story does remind me of the Starbucks in the Forbidden City, Beijing. It has since been removed, Starbucks that is and not the Forbidden City.

Just attribute this to globalization. But I would like to see it in reverse also, because I would love to see more outdoor cafes and waiters serving coffee or drinks here in Vancouver.

France has the second highest Mc Donalds sales in world ( from tv concerning this new store) I think the French can handle this no outside help.

It seems we're more in an uproar than the French:

France, Land of Epicures, Gets Taste for McDonalds

In Rome, the McDonald's signs helped up walk from the Colosseum to the Pantheon and then on to the Trevi Fountain. The streets there are pretty confusing and we just followed the red arrows. We thought it was pretty funny, but really helpful!

It’s an interesting paradox that so many French seem to love McDonald’s but hate the Americanization of their culture at the same time. I wonder if the corporate imperialists could get a fast food restaurant at the top of the Arc de Triomphe? BTW, where’s their Euro Menu? The French are getting ripped-off!
